TN, NASHVILLE - The Nicholson 1887 envelope - RPO fancy cancel - NL0565
Tennessee -
- although this is an envelope and not a postcard, it is listed as a card on account of the fact that people collect more than postcards from their town/city of choice. It was addressed to Mrs H J Clark of Evansville, Ind - #11 Putnam St
- Shows the Nicholson on a banner as well as ALSO AT UNION DEPOT in a circle. The artist signature under the image of the building shows GAST STL & NY
-
written in pencil is: Nashville & St Louis RPO Northern Line below the actual cancellation that has RPO and NL along with Jun 17 1887. The fancy cancel is on a brownish colored two cent stamp with Washington on it. Not sure if the stamp is valuable or not. On the back it has a rec'd cancel strike from Evansville, Ind on Jun 18, 1887 at 6am

Believe that The Nicholson was located on the corner of Church & Spruce (8th Ave No). Was owned and managed by Isaac C Nicholson. Flourished during the 1870s & 1880s. Replaced by Tulane Hotel during the 1890s. Found a Leopold Gast with brother August Gast Bought him out @1866 (not sure where the info above was gleamed from or how accurate it is - as it was written on a paper along with the envelope)
- Please note that the majority of the cards are over 50 years old and as such, are sold AS IS. Tears will be noted but it would be too timely to note each fault on every card. If condition is important to you - contact us with our number in the title & what it is that you would like to know or what it is that you would like pictured more closely.
- Again, because of the age of the cards - they are noted as being USED - no matter if they are written on or not.
