Ship Postcard - CECILIE, Crown Princess @1908 postcard - W01254
Postcards of Barges, Boats, Cargo Ships, Cruisers, Ferries, Fishing Ships, Frigates, Luxury Liners, Sailboats, Ships, Steamers, Submarines, Tankers, Tourist Vessels, Tug Boats etc
- mailed 1908 with Deutsch - Amerikanische seepost Bremen - New York (assume it to be POSTED AT SEA). Year not clear in the wide oval cancelation but there is 2 circular stamps (on for New York and the other stating 5 cents was due) that clearly has 1908.
- my research on the SS Kronprinzessin Cecilie was that it was an ocean liner built in Staten Germany in 1906 for Hapag-Lloyd. That it had the largest steam reciprocating machinery ever fitted in the ship at the time of construction. What is the last of foreships of the Kaiser class, she was also the last German ship to have been built with for funnels. Ship was seized in 1917 and turned over to the US Navy and renamed USS mount Vernon. Scrapped in Boston September 1940.
- What makes this postcard a little unique is that it opens up so basically a bifold with the front being one part and the back being another and connected on visually our left edge.
- Hand written on the front is: we are just (coming? ___) on this ship.
- Please note that the majority of the cards are over 50 years old and as such, are sold AS IS. Tears will be noted but it would be too timely to note each fault on every card. If condition is important to you - contact us with our number in the title & what it is that you would like to know or what it is that you would like pictured more closely.
- Because of the age of the cards - they are noted as being USED - no matter if they are written on or not.
