This is not a postcard but a couple of letters from a boy at camp - to his mother Mrs C L Dooley of Knoxville, TN - giving you insight of the kids thought process.  :-)

Letters from a son to his mother from Camp Greenbrier in Alderson, WV - one typed 4 page and the other in pencil on 2 sides

Dear Mother 

I did not get to write you yesterday because in the morning I was playing ball and in the afternoon we went on a 1.5 (or 15?) mile canoe trip.    We rode on the train up to a place called Rockland and then we got off the train and rode back in the canoes.  I sure was scared when we went through the rapids.  We had the worst canoe in the bunch and Jim Hall the best but he turned over and we didn't simple because we had a good boy in the back guiding it, Eugean Galyou.  It has been afully cloudy most every day up here but we play and have a good just the same.  I have just about died 3 or 4 times up here.  I have blistered and pealed about 3 times.  Mother wont you please let me have a little bit of ice tea per day the others have it and send me some candy please.  Well I will close now with a kiss.  Your son Chas.

The second letter is typed and I will only key in some of the highlights as it would take too much time to type it all.

Tomorrow we are going up to Camp Alligeny where the girls are and bring them down here and then have a dance tomorrow night.

*Flem has decieded to play in the band and in this way obtain his second month free

*I bought one half of a canoe and Spencer McHenry bought the other half.  He is a boy from Miss.

* The boys in my tent are Jim Kimball, Beach Hall, Morgan Ayres called Crack or realitives. because he went up to Ronceverte last Sunday to visit his REALITIVES so he said.  We know that he went to see his girl.

*Weston Fulton has a motor for a canoe.  He let me ride.   Please send me one also.

*I got a letter from grandmother today

* Camp Greenbrier will have a king this season...........at which the boy is dubbed his nick name, by the king.  

*We are having this week at the picture show Jack Pickford in THE HILL BILLY, Monte Cristo, and the Three Muskateers.  Tess of the Storm Country is coming in a few days.

*Flem Cooley and Spencer McHenry had a water fight today.  

* I eat shreade wheat every morning and drink no less than 3 glasses of milk every meal.

*I wish that you would send me some money to get my stamps with.  Because my other spending money I do not like to spend for stamps.  

*Weston had a big boil the other day.  It was on his side.  He went down to the doctor's office, a tent in camp and the man took a nife and cut it open.  Then he froze it with ether and cut some more and almost killed him.  He almost jumped out of the tent.  

This letter signed YOUR HOMESICK SON CHARLES

At the end he wrote:  PS if you dont get this letter, write and let me know and I will send you another one.
