MINNESOTA postcard - Hinckley, MN

Real Picture postcard that shows a monument to the Great Hinckley Fire.  The wrought iron arch/gate to the right of it has 1894 - 1903 over it, as part of the arch itself.

Upon researching it - it states that the monument memorializes the 418 people who are known to have died in this terrible disaster.  There are 4 trenches beneath it where 248 people were laid to rest in a mass grave.   It was stated that Hinckley was a logging and Railroad center before the fire of Sept 1, 1894 and that the fire itself killed 418 (plus) and burned up 5 surrounding villages as it consumed 350,000 acres plus.  Monument was dedicated in 1900.

  • Please note that the majority of the cards are over 50 years old and as such, are sold AS IS. Tears will be noted but it would be too timely to note each fault on every card. If condition is important to you - contact us with our number in the title & what it is that you would like to know or what it is that you would like pictured more closely.
  • Because of the age of the cards - they are noted as being USED - no matter if they are written on or not.
