  • back:  With the increasing use of electricity for signalling, gun discharge, etc there has come a proportionate advance in the pay and importance of the ELECTRICIAN-SERGEANTS, who are appointed, after due examination, upon the recommendation of the Chief of Artillery.  An Electrician-Sergeant of the first class receives from $45 to $69 a month, according to the length of his service, in addition to allowances.  These electrical experts of the non-commissioned corps have charge of the installation, maintenance and operation of the elaborate network of telephone and telegraph wires now necessary at every modern fort.
