Halloween Postcard

  • mailed 1914 from Lawrence, Kans with 8 straight killer lines
  • This postcard shows a witch dressed in red with a black hat and a red ribbon with white hair with her broom dangling down with a blue ribbon on it while she is standing in a balloon type basket up in the air.  Also in the basket is some type of creature that is wearing white that is similar to the Klu Klux Klans dress - but this thing has a red sash around its waist.  Visually in the oval also has some vegetable people that were hanging from the center of the basket.  It appears that it is a corn on the cob, a pumpkin, a parsnip and a cucumber.  The witch is trying to knock them off with her broom.  Off to the side is a large Jack o lantern on one side and an elf or gnome that is sitting on a large, golden bat up in the sky too.
  • lightly embossed
  • titled:  A Hallowe'en Wish
  • design copyrighted John Winsch, 1914
  • Unfortunately there are some tears to the card as well as creasing as shown in the pictures so is sold AS IS.
  • Did find 3 others with this same image that were sold recently for between $76 and $100 that were listed out as being from Series 3940, however this one doesn't have any numbers.  So if nothing else, this card may serve as a placeholder in your collection until a better card can be obtained.

  • Please note that the majority of the cards are over 50 years old and as such, are sold AS IS. Tears will be noted but it would be too timely to note each fault on every card. If condition is important to you - contact us with our number in the title & what it is that you would like to know or what it is that you would like pictured more closely.
  • Because of the age of the cards - they are noted as being USED - no matter if they are written on or not.
