• note:  Tonight I start for Texas.  I shall take the Southern Pacific Railroad, and eleven miles up the Mississippi River from New Orleans, my train will run on this big barge to be ferried over to the other side.  Don't you want to come along with me?  IOt will be dark, but I shall get out and walk around on the boat and look at the black water.  Then I shall get on the train and go to bed, and wake up near Houston.  Love daddy and addressed to Mr James Frederic Herrick, Jr
