• back:  World Ski Champ - Undisputed world champion of ski equipped transports is the powerful prop jet Lockheed Hercules.  This Air Force SKI-130 being tested by Task Force SLIDE broke all known records by lifting 124,000 pounds from a frozen lake near Bemidji, Minn.  Takeoff run was only 1,450 ft, using JATO (jet assist).  Powered by 4 Allison T56 turbines totaling 15,000 hp., the 6 miles a minute air freighter can be quickly adapted as a ski-wheel transport, using huge doghnut tires or 20 ft skis as needed
